Pretty decent GPS
By onin24eagle
Got the newer one with the 16000 preloaded courses on it. Every course I’ve played in my local area (North-Central MN) is on here. Considering that and the fact that I do not have to bother loading courses on my computer I’d say it’s worth the money right there.
However, I’d have to say that I’m not quite as pleased with the accuracy out of the box. On the courses I play a lot I find myself using the “remapping” feature quite a bit the first time around. Once it’s re-mapped then it’s good to go and quite accurate. Any time I bring the unit to a course for the first time, I simply don’t trust the yardages. After I’ve customized and remapped the course, then I’ll rely on it quite a bit.
Case in point, the local course where I’m a member had the wrong hole mapped for the first hole. Whoever mapped it had mistakenly identified hole #7 as the first hole and went from there. I can see how this could happen here as the seventh tee is next to the parking lot. Even when I figured out which was the correct hole to be on, the yardages were still off by as much as 10 yards. I have a 3.7 hdcp index and 10 yards can be like a mile to a better golfer. I have obviously re-mapped this course (with correct holes) and it is now dead on but due to this I am quite wary when bringing it somewhere new. Check it against yardages marked in the fairway and if it doesn’t seem to match, put it in your pocket and just re-map as you play. It only takes a minute to map the front, center and back of each green. Next time you visit the course it should be dead on.
I do like the fact that I can customize and map out key points on each hole such as bunkers and water hazards. In the end I give the unit itself 5 stars but the accuracy of the preloaded courses only 1 star, which thankfully can be fixed. Add those together and I give it 3 stars.

Great Range Finder
By Gary
This rangefinder was everything I hoped it would be and exactly as it was advertised. The setup was free and very simple via the igolf website. The first time I used it, it recognized my course immediately and provided me just what I needed througout the round. The readouts are very simple and easy to read. I would buy this rangefinder again and would recommend it to anyone that wants a very-easy-to-use piece of equipment. I find my golfing is much more fun now that I have accurate distances to the green.

Good for the price…
By BB
Overall, this is a good value for the golfer who would like to improve his score. If you own a rangefinder like I do, I would recommend this over all other gps devices. With a rangefinder, it works great and is the best value for a cost-conscious golfer! If I didn’t have a rangefinder, I would probably have bought the Garmin G3 because of the better visual screen display.
Pros: Small, fits in your pocket, works easily, ability to put custom points into the gps. Price, and especially great when you figure that don’t have to pay a yearly fee to own this. Has all the basic information that you need, easy to read, includes every course that I have played in Arizona or Michigan (and I play a lot.), automatically advances to each hole, and syncs up easily and finds the course you are playing without any hassle. The battery life on this gps is awesome. I would estimate I can get about 6-7 rounds on mine before I need to recharge. It works great.
Cons: Lacks the visuals that many other gps have on the screen. This can be a problem if you are playing where there is a severe dogleg. On a course I was playing, it said it was like 280 to the green, but it was a par 5 about 500 yards. The 280 wasn’t practical because it was almost all carry with hazards surrounding the green. Because of the huge (and blind) dogleg, you couldn’t really get an idea of how you wanted to play it. With that said, if I played the course regularly, I would custom map it and put a good layup shot for the next time I was going to play the hole. Out of the roughly 25-30 rounds I have played with it, it has failed to find a hole 2-3 times. When this happens, it just skips the hole and you can’t get to the hole. To me, that’s acceptable. The plastic carrying case for your belt is somewhat crappy. It fell off one time; I could have lost or broke my gps because of the plastic clip. I would advise buying the leather holder for it. Very nice and keeps it secure.
Syncing: I have seen where some people say it doesn’t find their local course without a manual search (the manual search is a bit tedious), but my guess is that they are not allowing the gps enough time to find the course. When I play, I just turn it on, go putt or get my gear ready, then click the button. It works every time.
Overall, I recommend this gps. I think it’s great as long as you aren’t expecting it to have a display where you can look at what hole looks like.
